中華、マレー、ヨーロッパの文化が入り混じったプラナカン文化が楽しめる、シンガポールのカトンエリア。
フォトジェニックな建物や可愛い雑貨屋さんが多く、特に女子旅では人気となってきているエリアです。
カトンエリアは駅から遠いので、バスかタクシーで訪れるのが良さそうです。
シンガポールでは本当にみんな気軽にタクシーを使います。タクシーを手配するアプリが充実しているのと、金額1000円くらいなのでお手頃。
プラナカンハウスはパステルカラーの家に、タイルのような装飾が特徴的。
観光地のようになっていますが、実際に住んでいる人がいるので、写真を撮るときには配慮が必要です。
友達に教えてもらって訪れたのが「キャット・ソクラテス」という雑貨屋さん。
カトンならではの、プラナカンハウスが描かれた可愛いハガキやコースターがありました。
また店名にもあるように、ネコのモチーフの雑貨も。看板ネコにも会えました。
一時帰国はまだ先になりそうなので、今回は夫婦でお正月に遊ぶ用にトランプ（S$15）とカードゲーム（S$21）、1000ピースのジグソーパズル（S$38）を購入。
ややお高めですが気にしたら負けです。
このトランプ、一枚一枚にシンガポールならではのイラストが書かれていて、飾るだけでもきっと可愛い。めずらしく即決した商品でした。
シンガポールと言えば「マーライオン」、「マリーナ・ベイ・サンズ」、「ガーデンズ・バイ・ザ・ベイ」。
王道の観光地を訪れたあとは、カトンでオシャレな旅を楽しんでみてはいかかでしょうか。

Singapore's Katong area is where you can enjoy Peranakans culture, a mixture of Chinese, Malay and European cultures. There’re lots of Photogenic buildings and general stores there. And this is one of the popular areas for girls. Katong is far from a station, so it’s better to go there by bus or taxi.
The Peranakans House is a pastel-colored house, and it has decorated tiles. This is a tourist spot, but people are living in it. So you should be careful when taking photos.
This time, I visited Cat Socrates, one of the general stores at Katong. There were many postcards, coasters with Peranakans House pictures, cat motif goods, etc. The mascot cat was also cute.
I bought playing cards (S$15), a card game (S$21), and a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle (S$38), and I’ll play them on New Year's Day. I guess I don’t need to buy any souvenirs for friends or family for a while. I didn’t care about the prices. Unique Singapore-like illustrations were written on each sheet. And I’m sure they’re cute to decorate. I made a prompt decision.
Speaking of Singapore, people will think of ‘Merlion,’ ‘Marina Bay Sands,’ and ‘Gardens by the Bay.’ After visiting these sightseeing spots, why not enjoy a fashionable trip at Katong?
