1万円のバイオリン購入しました I got a 10,000 yen violin

前回のテニス　コンドミニアムのテニスコート（完全初心者） My new hobby, tennis at my condominium’s tennis court - 1000日後にバケモノになるふねさん　に引き続き、なんと新しくバイオリンを買ってみました。

なんで始めたかというと…ジブリの「耳をすませば」でせいじくんが弾くバイオリンに惹かれ、次の日のイッテQでみやぞんが初心者からバイオリンをやっているのを見て興味を持ち、勢いで激安バイオリンを購入していました。

Amazon Japanで日本からの送料込みで、お値段1万円。

ありがたいことにセットになっていて、バイオリン、弓、松脂、チューナー、替えの弦が入っています。

レッスンに行くほどのモチベーションはまだないので、You Tubeで組み立て方から、楽器の持ち方などを調べて始めてみました。

バイオリンは難しいと思っていましたが、予想通りの難しさです。まず構え方、調弦、次に音の鳴らし方（弓）、左手の弦の押さえ方…

ただ、クラリネットをやっていた経験から、楽器が上手くなるためにはとんでもなく時間がかかることは分かっています。

曲が弾けるくらいになったらもっと楽しくなると思うので、1日10分でも楽器を触って慣れていきたいです。

A few days ago I started tennis, and then I also bought a violin. First, I got attracted to Seiji’s violin from Whisper of the Heart. Then, a day after that, I was interested in Miyazon’s violin from ItteQ. So that’s why I started violin. It was 10,000 yen included the delivery fee. It was really cheap, and it was included a violin, a bow, rosin, a tuner, and strings.

I don’t want to take a lesson on violin so far, so I watched videos for how to start on YouTube. I knew it was difficult to play the violin, and it was difficult as expected. However, I had the experience of playing the clarinet, so I knew I needed to take a long time to play musical instruments very well. If I can play it more, playing the violin must be more exciting. So I want to keep playing it 10 minutes a day.

新しい趣味がほしい、ということで始めてみたのが「テニス」。夫婦ともに文化系の部活ばかりでこれまで一度もトライしたことのなかったスポーツに、ついに手を出してみました。

なぜテニスかというと、コンドミニアムにテニスコートがあったから。

アプリでコートを予約することができ、使用料は無料です（回数制限あり）。

夜のテニスコート

テニスラケットは＄39でデカトロンというスポーツ用品店で買いました。ラケット2本とボール2個でこの価格。初心者にも優しいお値段でした。

ちなみにデカトロン（サマセット店）はThe Centrepointというショッピングモールに入っており、店内はかなり広いです。スポーツごとに商品が陳列されていて、見ているだけでも楽しくなります。

シンガポールは日差しが殺人的なので、20時～や21時～といった、夜の時間帯からできるのも魅力です。

まだまだ超初心者でラリーも続きませんが、ゆるく楽しんでいけたらと思います。

I wanted to try something new, and I started playing tennis these days. My husband and I haven’t tried any sports before, though. My condominium has a tennis court, that’s why we started playing tennis. We can book with an app, and the fee is free.

By the way, we bought tennis rackets at DECATHLON, the sports shop. It was included two rackets and two balls. And it was only $39, so it was a good price for beginners.
DECATHLON is located at The Centrepoint @Somerset, and the shop is huge.
It’s fun to look around because there are lots of items for each sport.

In Singapore, the sunlight is too strong, so it’s good for me to play tennis at night.
We are still beginners, so we can’t continue the rally. But I want to enjoy it.

シンガポールのスーパーで買えるコーヒー飲み比べ（カフェオレ用） I bought several kinds of coffee at the supermarket (for cafe au lait)

自分用メモも兼ねています。

カフェオレが好きで一日3杯程度飲んでいます。お手頃で美味しいコーヒー粉（ペーパードリップ）を探して、いくつか飲み比べてみました。

スーパーマーケット（フェアプライス）で買えるものの中で、試したのは

・CAFÉ DIRECT　5 INTENSE

                     ○結構美味しい。牛乳を入れてもコーヒー感強め。若干癖はあるが、牛乳を多めに入れると良い。

・TESCO ESPRESSO　5 STRONG

                      △悪くないけど、安めのコーヒーという感じ。味は薄くはない。

・TESCO Finest　NO.5

                      ○調べたところ、多くのシンガポール・マレーシア駐在ブロガーが「市販コーヒーでイチオシ」、と言っていた。美味しかったけど、ブラックでも飲めるものなので、カフェオレにするなら結構濃い目にしないといけない。減りが早かったのでコスパは良くないかも。

・STARBUCKS　CAFÉ VERONA

                      ◎美味しい。やや値段が高いので、毎日飲むというよりは少し贅沢を感じたいときに良い。日本にいるときから、スタバのコーヒー粉を買うならカフェベロナ一択。

・SUZUKI　 ROYAL BLEND

                      △癖が強め。

基本的にコーヒー：牛乳＝1：1で飲むカフェオレ用なので、一番濃そうな深煎りのものを選んでいます。

いまのところ、CAFÉ DIRECTとカフェベロナをリピート中。

毎日飲むものとして、味の好みと値段のバランスが良いものを引き続き探していこうと思います。

I like drinking café au lait, and I usually three cups of coffee every day. So I bought reasonable and tasty coffee for paper drip.

I bought them at FairPrice.
・CAFÉ DIRECT　5 INTENSE
    　○It’s good. Even if I add milk, it's strong coffee. It has a little bit of peculiar flavor, but it’s better with much milk.
・TESCO ESPRESSO　5 STRONG
   　 △It’s not really bad. But it tastes like cheap coffee. The flavor is not weak.
・TESCO Finest NO.5
 　   ○Many blogars in Singpore recommend it. I liked it, but it was not cheap.  It was good without milk, and I guess it’s not strong. So when I drink it with milk, I have to add more coffee powder.
・STARBUCKS　CAFÉ VERONA
　    ◎It’s delicious. It’s more expensive than other coffee, so I drink it when I want to treat myself. I also bought it many times when I was in Japan.
・SUZUKI　ROYAL BLEND
  　  △It has a little bit of peculiar flavor.

I usually drink coffee with the same quantity of milk, so I choose the coffee with a dark roast. I bought CAFÉ DIRECT and CAFÉ VERONA again. But I want to find more favorite coffee, so I’ll keep searching for good coffee.

英語読書での気づき What I notice when I read English books

主にチャーリーとチョコレート工場、ハリー・ポッター（いずれもイギリス作家）を読んで気になったこと。とりとめなく、内容もバラバラですが備忘録として書いています。

・イギリス英語とアメリカ英語の違い「for ever」

                 foreverが一単語ではなく、二単語であることに驚きました。調べてみると、イギリス英語ではそのようになるとのこと。

・イギリス英語とアメリカ英語の違い「travelling」

                 上記に加え、「travelling（UK）」、「traveling（US）」のようにlが重なるというのも違和感がありました。

・よく使われる表現「as though」（まるで～のように）

                 ファンタジーを読んでいるからか、何回も登場した表現でした。

たとえばダンブルドア登場時の紹介シーン。

… his nose was very long and crooked, as though it had been broken at least twice.

・ハリー・ポッターの「例のあの人（ヴォルデモート）」は「You Know Who」

                 初めて見たときは衝撃でした。でも妙に納得した表現です。

・ハリー・ポッターの「寮」は「house」

                 グリフィンドール寮であれば、「Gryffindor House」。

英語読書の際は基本的にわからない単語は文脈で理解する（もしく読み飛ばす）ようにしていますが、時々調べてみると表現・違いに気づくことができ、おもしろいなぁと思います。

After I read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, I noticed several things. They’re not organized, but I’m writing along with a note to myself.

・Something different between British English and American English, 'for ever'
    I was surprised that forever is not one word. 
    ‘for ever (UK)’ 　／　‘forever (US)’

・Something different between British English and American English, travelling.
    ‘travelling (UK)’ 　／　‘traveling (US)’

・Commonly used phrases, as though
    Because what I read was fantasy, the phrases often appeared.
For example,
… his nose was very long and crooked, as though it had been broken at least twice. 
・Voldemort is called You-Know-Who
・Hogwarts has four houses (not called dormitory)
・Hagrid speaks strange English
    you→yeh
    everything→everythin’　／　saying→sayin’　／　and→an’
    them→‘em

When I find words I don’t know,  I often guess the meaning of the sentences(or skip). But sometimes I look up the meaning, so I notice the expression and differences, and I feel really fun.

英語読書「Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator」 English Reading “Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator”

前回ハリー・ポッターを読んでからだいぶ時間が経ちましたが、

英語読書「Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone」 English Reading “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” - 1000日後にバケモノになるふねさん

チャーリーとチョコレート工場の続編、「チャーリーとガラスの大エレベーター」を読み終わりました。

あらすじ

（映画と違って）チャーリーと家族、ミスターウォンカはガラスのエレベーターでチョコレート工場に帰ろうとしたところ、問題が起こって宇宙に飛び出す。着いた先にあった宇宙ホテルに助けを求めようとしたが、そこで宇宙人に出くわし、ひと悶着。なんやかんやあって、宇宙ホテルの従業員も助けつつ、チョコレート工場に帰ることができた。

（宇宙の話は終わり、）ウォンカの発明品である若返りの薬を、ベッドで寝たきりのおじいちゃん（Granpa George）・おばあちゃん（Granma Josephine, Granma Georgina）が取り合って争う。欲を出して規定量を超えて飲んだGeorgeとJosephineは赤ちゃんに、Georginaはマイナス歳になってしまう。紆余曲折あり、ウォンカの発明品で何とか元通りに。

最後は宇宙ホテルを助けたお礼に、アメリカ大統領からホワイトハウスに招待される。寝たきりだったおじいちゃんおばあちゃんは喜びでベッドから飛び降り、歩けるようになってハッピーエンド。

Charlie and the Chocolate Factoryのときは映画を観てから読んだので、あらすじが分かっていましたが、今回は話の展開が読めず、難しく感じました。あらすじを見てもわかるように、ぶっ飛んだ内容なので…。

チョコレート工場の子どもたちもそうでしたが、今回も「欲を出しすぎると良いことない」というような教えでした。

チョコレート工場のほうが知名度が高すぎて、こちらはあまり有名ではなさそうです。正直、チョコレート工場のほうが圧倒的に良かったな…と思いました。これはこれでおもしろい本ではありますが…。

2019年あたりの記事で、ロアルド・ダールの作品をNetflixで映像化するという話が出たそうです。今のところ他に映画化されたりはしていませんが、今後Netflixに登場するようなら見てみたいと思います。

About two months ago, I finished reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. And I’ve finally read Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, the next story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

When I read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I started reading after watching the movie, so I already knew the story. But at this time, I didn’t know the story, so it was harder to understand. As you know, the story is strange. The point of this book was, ‘You fail if you get too greedy.’ Which is the same thing as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is really popular, but this book isn’t so famous. Honestly, I like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory more. But Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator isn’t too bad. It’s fun.

I saw the article in 2019 that the books written by Roald Dahl will be made into movies on Netflix. However, I couldn’t find any movies so far. If the movies are made, I want to watch them.

シェアサイクルでセントーサ島サイクリング I tried bike-sharing and went cycling on Sentosa island

少し前から気になっていたシェアサイクルを借りてサイクリングをしてみました。

シンガポールにはあちこちでシェアサイクルの駐輪場があり、時々乗っている人も見かけます。

それはこの黄緑色の自転車、anywheelというレンタサイクルです。

使い方はというと、

1．Anywheelというアプリをダウンロード

アカウントとクレジットカードを登録して準備完了。チャージ式で、＄10から入金ができます。

2．自転車選択・解錠

乗りたい自転車のQRコードを読み取ると、鍵が自動で解錠されます。

3．乗車

実際に乗ってみると、やや振動があるものの、気持ちよくサイクリングができました。

荷物を置く前カゴは固定されているので、ハンドルを切ってもついてきません。はじめは違和感がありましたが、慣れると気にならなくなります。

4．返却

駐輪場に止めて自転車の鍵を自分で閉めます。その後、アプリから地面に印字されているQRコードを読み取ると、料金が表示され、返却完了となります。

今回はビボシティ近くの駐輪場からスタートし、セントーサ島のビーチ沿いを走りました。

金額は約1時間で＄2でした（＄1/30min）。

このように通った経路も表示されるのもおもしろいです。

シンガポールは不思議なことに、ロードバイクでサイクリングしている人は多いのですが、普段の買い物などでママチャリに乗っている人はほぼ見たことがありません。

気軽に自転車に乗って楽しみたい人には、シェアサイクルはうってつけだと思います。

I tried bike-sharing, which I’ve been interested in.
In Singapore, there are lots of bicycle parking anywhere, and I sometimes find people using bike-sharing.
It’s the yellow-green bicycle, named anywheel.

How to use

1.    Downloading the app, anywheel
What you have to do is to register your own account and credit card. It is prepaid, and you can top it up from $10. 
2.    Selecting the bicycle and Unlocking
After scanning the QR cord of the bicycle you want to ride, it’s unlocked.
3.    Riding
When I actually rode, I felt the vibrations, but riding the bicycle was good. I was confused at first that the basket was fixed, and it didn’t move with the handle. But I got used to riding after few minutes.
4.    Return
After you park the bicycle at the parking, lock the key by yourself. Then, scan the QR cord on the corner of the parking. After that, the app shows the rate, and you can finish return it.

At this time, I started riding near Vivocity, and I went along the beach on Sentosa. The rate was $2 for one hour. (＄1/30min)
The app shows the route, and I think it is useful.

Many people are riding road bikes in Singapore. Still, Curiously, I don’t find people riding city bicycles for daily shopping.
If you want to feel free to go cycling, bike-sharing is great for you.

シンガポールの規制強化、再び The measures for COVID-19 are strict once more

ここのところ感染者が爆発的に増えていたので、あるかな～とは思っていましたが…。

これまで5人まで外食OKだったのが、また2人に逆戻りしました。団体行動も2人まで。

数日間は1500人/日の感染者なので、今後しばらく増えるでしょうし、対応は必須とも言えます。

とはいえ外食禁止にまでならなくて、ひとまず安心ではあります。

規制の強化は本日9月27日から、10月24日まで。

吹奏楽団の練習も始まったり、英会話メンバーとランチに行ったり、と楽しい日々を過ごしていたので、また厳しくなるのは残念です。

またおうち時間の過ごし方を考える必要がありそうです。

The measures for COVID-19 are strict once more
These days, the COVID-19 situation is worse, so I wondered if the measures would be strict. Up to 5 persons per group to eat together were allowed until yesterday, but only 2 are allowed today. And also, only 2 persons per group for social gatherings are allowed. The COVID-19 cases have been 1500/day the past few days. And I guess the cases will be more. So the government had to deal with that. However, I was relieved because eating out wasn’t prohibited.

The strict measures are from 27 Sep. to 24 Oct. And it makes me disappointed. Because I enjoyed these days, the wind ensemble and lunch with friends from English school.

I have to think about what I should do at home.
